The Covides cooperative society, which was founded in 1964, has approximately 650 members from the Alt and Baix Penedès and Garraf areas, with 2,300 hectares of its own vineyards and 3 cellars equipped with the latest technology for producing wines and cavas.
It is the number one wine-growing cooperative society in Catalonia and one of the most important in Spain, the sixth most important manufacturer of cava worldwide and the second most important cooperative society belonging to the Penedès D.O. Covides also exports 65% of its production to more than 45 countries and is present in all 5 continents.
It has a wide range of D.O. Penedès and D.O. Cava products, and the extremely high standards it applies in manufacturing its products has enabled it to obtain certifications such as the OK Kosher.
Most of its grape production comes from the Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada and Chardonnay white grape varieties, which it uses to make wines and sparkling wines protected by the Penedès and Cava Designations of Origin.
The red grape varieties Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon also play an important part in the elaboration of D.O. Penedès red and rosé wines.
